IT'S ALL RELATIVE By A98AON1GUDHW7 on 2008-01-25
As a person who, 25 years ago, could do over 2000 sit-ups in 1 1/2 hrs. I now find myself with much less energy and a more sedentary job and 60 years old. I have shunned all the other "hide-under-the-bed" exercise scams. I took a chance on this one and must say that the construction and theory are not bad in practice. For someone who wants to watch TV/listen to music/meditate while springing back-and-forth, I notice positive ab muscle tensioning. It's easy to sit there and rock; and before you know it you're rocking more and more, and easier and easier. Since the abs are the key to lower back muscle strength how can this tiny device, at a mere $100 hurt more than the first few days? This item will NEVER be under my bed. I'll wear it out and ask for one made from stainless steel! I think it's the best ab device available, if you need a device to motivate you to do ab exercises. Apt dwellers, this I recommend for you.
Worth less than advertised By A9GIGJUB98JNR on 2007-12-01
This product does work the abs, as it facilitates sit-ups. But the upright backside with the rollers is nearly worthless. As I understand it, the backside with its rollers are suppose to massage the the back. This backside's frame's curvature will probably not fit a majority of users. So, these rollers will basically softly roll over your backside. Not my idea of a massage, and due to its fitting, only one roller ever touches my backside during actual use, and that roller doesn't do much for me. As compared to regular sit-ups, the product's seating design is effective; particularly, if someone has extremely weak abdominal muscles. Product is worth about $50. If you like a vinyl roller softly rolling across your back, product is then worth $100. I tried comparing it to an ab lounge. I believe Ab Rocket works the abdomen better, but the ab lounge exercises and stretches more parts of the body.
Love the Ab Rocker By AXTHRQLIL24PL on 2007-12-17
I love this product. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars was when I changed the "tension" setting I had to wrestle with it. Other than that I love this machine. I am trying to get back in shape after 2 pregnancies and hypothyroidism. Even my son (6) who struggles with sit-ups uses it...we take turns counting for each other! I would buy it again tomorrow. I own 2 pieces of equipement an elliptical, and this. Beats the gym and fits under my bed. LOVE IT!
great for really "out-of-shapers" By A2K18TSVLTBSD5 on 2008-03-25
My husband wanted the ab rocket to help with his middle age "spare tire". I was more than happy to order it for him. It was reasonably simple to assemble and it ended up in the middle of the living room floor in front of the TV. It turned out our son and I always use it too, just cause it there, and it's fun. I'm one who never did sit ups because I could never keep my neck and shoulders in the right position. The ab rocket supports the neck and has handles to help pull up until you get those ab muscle strong enough to do it on their own. I'd also like to comment on the springs... I have seen reviews where folks were disappointed because the springs provided very little "resistance". I was under the impression that the spring with the most tension was there as an aid for the beginner & really out of shape (like me) and the more muscle you build in the abs the lighter the spring you would use... Anyway, our family has found the ab rocket a fun way to firm up our "core".
Additional comments a year later... One of the plastic brackets on the back of the ab rocket broke, so if you don't keep your legs out straight, the whole thing tips over. I'm afraid the thing just sits in our closet. I find the small bender type ball works just as well for me now. I still think ab rocket is a good idea and we did get our "money's worth" out of it before the bracket broke. The manufacturers just need to replace those plastic brackets with something more durable. Who knows, maybe they already have...
Not made for everyone By A1MTTRPSBAJIPT on 2008-07-24
I really can't rate the effectiveness of this product because I had to return it. But my recommendation is to NOT buy this product unless you are under 5 foot 10 inches tall. The instructions said it was very important to slide your butt back as far as it will go against the back cushion AND that your head must be against the cushioned head rest. I am 6 foot 3 and the head rest fell about even with my lower neck (if you position yourself in the seat according to the directions). In order for me to get my head against the head rest, I had to slide my entire butt off the front of the seat. I hope this helps potential buyers.
- looks good but disappointed
     By A2ND8B01A3ZQ9I on 2008-01-12
The actual item looks good and the idea is great, but we were really disapointed with the quality of how it works. It comes with 4 different tension springs from lightest tension to hardest tension, and there clearly just is not enough tension in the springs to accomodate it. we are pretty much normal size people and when you go to " rock " backwards it should hold you so that it rocks back smooth. we used the hardest tension adjustment and it still dosnt hold you, it just goes straight back down. So we returned ours and waiting for a refund. you might want to try the AB LOUNGE SPORT which is supposed to offer a better complete Range of Motion. That is what we are going to try next & the price is a bit cheaper. (seen on sale for $79.00 at kmart website)hope this helps!
- Do Not waste Your Time or Money
     By A3I8GLJ6FEFT4D on 2007-12-23
Ab Rocket (EA) This product does not live up to its Hype. The different springs provide little to no change to the device. It was very uncomfortable and I noticed very little work being done by my abs, which is why I purchased it. It has since been returned and Amazon was their typical professional self to deal with and took it back no questions ask. There is a lot of good exercise equipment out there, this is not one of them.
- Works Good...Do Not Agree With Negative Reviews
     By A1QHEF7GXGFKGH on 2008-02-29
My husband and I purchased the Ab Rocket to tone up a bit. We are both very happy with it. It helps target the abdominal muscles without straining the neck or the back. I actually enjoy doing sit-ups again! It was easy to put together...the springs were not difficult. I would recommend this product to any one.
- Effective for creating abdominal strength
     By ATG2XLZ77G3Q5 on 2008-07-21
I am not a paid reviewer, that's for sure. I looked at the Ab Rocket with a lot of skepticism but with the simple hope that it would work as advertised. This product does work if you use it right. Initially, I approached it from a typical sit-up perspective, but that wasn't the right way. This is good for crunches, not sit-ups. It makes them easier and definitely more fun. Watch the accompanying video and they'll show you how to use it correctly. Actually, I didn't get it till I saw my wife using it, then the light came on. So, first off - it does work. The other good thing is it really is lightweight and relatively easy to set up and move around. It's true as some have said here - the resistance coils do take more effort to change than I would prefer (I needed to use a pliers, actually). But I've had all kinds of exercise equipment and they've always been heavier, bulkier, and more difficult to manipulate than made to appear. This only weighs 10 pounds, so thankfully, this isn't like them. Is it worth $100? I say yes, because it isn't about the value of the materials so much as it is about the value of its effectiveness. Can you get anything else this effective for even near the same amount of money? Not that I've seen. So, if you want an effective way to create abdominal strength then I say this is worth the money they ask for it.
- Don't waste your money!!!!
     By A2KTYAKU1PEVCI on 2007-11-10
First and foremost, this item is not worth the one hundred or more dollars. The 3 resistance stretch coils did not offer any or very, very, very little resistance. I was able to bend easily all the way to the floor no matter which resistance coils I was using. Truly disappointed. Also, after bending backward, you will use your own strength to bend forward, no matter how far up you want to go. The resistance coils will offer nothing by way of resistance no matter what your weight is.
- For 5'8" people or under
     By A23QFUQX3LPSMH on 2009-06-11
All the models shown in the videos and commercials for Ab Rocket must be around 5'6", because this thing is tiny. If it were a car, it would be a sub-compact at best, and a clown car at worst. As a 6'2" man, the top of the back rest probably reached the middle of my shoulder blades, resulting in an awkward and useless exercise no matter where I sat (or even if I sat in front of the seat, which is where you have to sit if you are over 6 feet tall for your head to touch the headrest).
Handles are wobbly, but otherwise construction is sound. This thing does not have to be particularly rock-like in its construction, after all, because it sits on the ground. For anything that has to support your weight as it suspends you, like the Ab Lounge, obviously construction materials/design becomes a lot more important so you don't wind up on your butt.
Most of these reviews operate from a very simple misconception. Not Strong Enough Resistance!!! they all say. I guess they're thinking in terms of a BowFlex or something where increased resistance means harder. AB ROCKET RESISTANCE IS DESIGNED TO AID YOUR EXERCISE, NOT MAKE IT HARDER. IT IS SUPPOSED TO AID YOUR UPWARD MOVEMENT (A ROCKET GOES UP, KIDS), NOT DOWNWARD. MORE RESISTANCE MEANS MORE HELP AND LESS WORK ON YOUR PART. For those lamenting that it feels the same going down no matter which resistance, well, duh. Ab Rocket operates on the assumption that it's the 'up' part that is hard, and that's the part it helps you with, by springing you up from the down (horizontal) position. Those screaming for higher resistances must be real cupcakes.
That said, in theory this would work well for a small person. I guess Ab Rocket thinks people over 6 feet are giants. I sent it immediately back.
- cheaply made
     By A2AOD0CGRL5ZFU on 2008-03-26
I have never returned an item ordered from Amazon or their sellers. This was the first. This is an over priced cheap plastic chair-parts were not durable, let alone NO resistance for your abs. Might as well have been a reclining beach chair. Kudos to Amazon for making the return process painless.
- Stress
     By A1ZTDGSCXO1LQD on 2008-01-20
Yes, after putting together this apparatus I found that when I went to use it with the strongest tension spring that it was not enough tension there to keep me from falling all the way down so that I was flat on the floor----you need stronger tension springs----at this point I find this ab rocket unusable....
- Ab Rocket Abdominal trainer
     By AS8IK8S4N872V on 2008-02-23
My husband and I purchased the Ab Rocket Abdominal Trainer
a month ago.
We work out at least five days a week for just a few minutes.
It has really made a difference in both our abdomains and even
our stomach. We are looking better in our clothes and our family
and friends have noticed how much better we look.
My older sister's husband is going to his High School reunion this
summer and he also bought one before we did and thats what encouraged
us to purchase our Ab Rocket. He looks so good and has alot more con-
fidence in himself.
I would strongly advise anyone who is interested in shaping up, to
buy the Ab Rocket Abdominal Trainer. If want to look better and are
willing to do it, it really works!

- Helps me do sit ups again!
     By A3HETHW2XD3DWH on 2008-07-19
After dislocating three lower back disks over the past 20 years, I pretty much gave up doing sit ups. When I saw this product I thought it would be just like all the others: overpriced, uncomfortable and useless. Guess what ~ I was wrong! I'm using AB ROCKET happily now for one month and have more praise than criticism for it. At just under 5'5" tall, I fit comfortably, however, I could not see a person taller by even three inches getting any benefit out of the neck support. There is no strain on my lower back whatsoever, so the design does what it is supposed to do and I am doing 100 sit ups a day, feeling the results within no time. For me this was the biggest plus since I could not lift my back off the floor for traditional sit ups without the aid of this rocking device. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a basic abdominal workout. My few criticisms were that the three resistance bands were pretty much useless in terms of the lowest being so light it was light having no resistance at all, the middle band not much tighter, and the "hardest" level was just about right. I'd have liked one even harder. The other negative point is that in order to fold the unit for flat storage, you have to unscrew the tension springs, and the plastic caps are not sturdy enough to withstand daily usage. The model in the store already had two broken caps so I'm being extra cautious with mine.
I would NOT shell out the price on tv plus shipping for this, it's just not worth it. But the price here on Amazon is more on target with what a simple at-home machine should cost.
- Works, but not worth the $
     By A2OBY90GAAFY8N on 2008-01-01
I've had worse ab products, but I don't think it's worth the money! It's equivalent to a rocking chair. The resistance isn't very good at all, and it takes forever to put the highest resistance band on. Bottom line, save your money, this product is way over priced!
- It Works - If You Work with It Correctly
     By AAQ8DW37ZLJ4J on 2009-01-21
What the Ab Rocket is suppose to do- and does, is help you do an ab crunch correctly, without putting undo strain on your neck, shoulders and back.
I fast-forwarded though most of the DVD (haven't had a chance to look at the Pilates section yet), and then simply work out while watching a Netflix - flick. As with anything else, you must pay attention to your form and do the movements correctly - or you're wasting time and effort.
I use the strongest of the springs (like some others, I wish they had another level higher) and do 50 crunches at a time - normally going to 500 total. It might seem like a lot, but doing them this way is so much easier on my back, shoulder and neck, that I don't mind putting in the extra effort. And yes, I do feel it!
The unit went together in under 5 minutes and I don't bother 'hiding' it between uses. Besides, this is another place the cats have taken over to sleep on when not in use.
I use the Ab Rocket in conjunction with the iBslender rocker. And as I mention in another review I have some physical health issues that need to be catered to: Fibromyalgia, scoliosis, asthma, and a shoulder that needs surgery (stretched out ligaments, it dislocates).. oh and I'm 51 too.
This unit allows me to work out, improve my health and not hurt myself further. I'm happy.

- misleading
     By A2YGOF0L1QIYC5 on 2008-02-08
I could not get my head to stay on the top of the ab rocket. Tried all 3 bands and they didnt work at all. The design is all wrong.
Also it is on the floor and hard to get into position to say nothing of your head never stays on the pad so your neck start to hurt. It just doesnt work at all .

- Any guys/girls wanna look better faster? Then try this.
     By A2W9LEXD3BAETW on 2008-04-01
Man, I love this product. The first time I saw or tried this product was at Dicks and I was so into it right away that I nearly bought it there that day. I saw the store model that they had available, but couldn't find another one in a box available at Dicks so I asked the manager if he had any either around or "in the back" of the store. They looked and said that there were no "boxed" models, but that I could either order one to pick up from them at a later date or buy the store model for just a 10% discount of the original price. That didn't sound all that great to me especially considering that Dicks pretty much sells everything at or near the original price, so I decided to see if I could find a decent price for the truly "boxed" Ab Rocket on the internet. Obviously I decided to skip the Dicks and go to Amazon and order it from them. The Ab Rocket is truly a wonderful piece of exercise equipment and it works really well. I've already been a person that loves to work out and keep in good shape, but the Ab Rocket honestly does satisfy us (already) physically fit people because it makes a difference to people whether they're already fit or not. I'm lovin' how my abs are lookin' better than ever quicker than ever...crunches. Doing normal crunches without exercise equipment like the Ab Rocket was never fun and sometimes simply just an aching strain on the back or neck. Plus I never liked sweating on either my bed, a mat or the floor/carpet like the regular way of crunches is always done. The Ab Rocket gets rid of the nonsense of regular crunches, such as the kind done on a hard floor, and provides you with a relatively comfortable cushion to lay your back and bottom on while holding onto the quality sidebars. The sidebars provide something nice to hold onto and can also come off easily so that you can put the Ab Rocket under the bed or in your closet in an instant. All in all, this was one of my favorite products that I've ordered from Amazon so far. I think you'll feel the same way too. Stay fit brothers and sisters.
- IT IS WORKING FOR ME
     By A38YTJY0UGAZ4U on 2008-04-04
After quitting smoking and having major surgery I had gained 30 pounds, and it seemed most of it was in my midsection. I have always had a weak lower back and was never able to do situps. The Ab Rocket was my answer. I have only been using it for a month but already have toned up my stomach muscles. I have a long way to go, am also walking everyday and on a diet. At the age of 65, I want to get back into good physical shape and feel the Ab Rocket will help me achieve this goal. For the price it has definitely been a great deal. Like most things in life you have to work at it to get results.

When using the Ab Rocket, it hurts your back. It is purported to support your back while doing sit-ups but I did not find that to be so.
- Ab Rocket review
     By AKALCY2HILWXW on 2008-03-06
I was afraid it would not live up to its commercial claims.
I was surprised. I love it! It is easy to use, just as advertised.
I have never been able to do ab exercises. Now, I can.
After only a few weeks use, I spent last weekend taking up my slacks about 4 inches each in the waist.
I am very happy with it.
Thanks,

- Torture Device - Isolates Abs...
     By AU1GQJGCX3H5L on 2008-02-07
This Ab Rocket is the best of these torture devices for isolating the abs. Your abs will be Screaming at you, for a long time.
It takes a sick mind to develop such a device. Get it, if you want to exercise your abs, and don't mind the pain.
- good product, portable, simple to put together, easy to store
     By A2C9FVEG0M2S6M on 2008-08-17
Bed, Bath & Beyond as well as Linens n Things sells this and I took one of those 20% off coupons they always send in the mail and got this for 79.99. Pretty easy to store and folds right up. Only a few steps to put together and great to just distract yourself while watching tv--feel more productive with your evening (I have).
- AB Rocket
     By AQO8GW2IXNNHS on 2008-04-01
I had high hopes when I purchased this item. Seemed as if it would serve the purpose of providing the support needed to do sit ups. Well I was sadly disappointed in this product. I put the highest level of tension springs on it and it just flopped around. I had expected that it would take a bit of force to make it move back and then forward again. When I tried the backward movement the chair part would come up from the ground and it was just not at all what I had expected. In concept its a good idea, but this product was a waste of my money. Not to mention on TV the models they have demonstrating it weigh 100 pounds soaking wet. It was not in the least bit comfortable to sit on for someone who has a few pounds to lose.
- Ab Rocket
     By A2CGKOCW6A2PBT on 2008-05-27
Awesome product, we love it. We are over 50 and it sure makes a difference. Takes the pressure off your neck and back, but boy you can still feel it in the abs. Alittle overpriced, but I am glad we bought it.
- Works for Me
     By A3SFHDVU9WXC74 on 2008-07-17
I am a paraplegic and the ab roller has enabled me to do "sit-ups" after 20 years of not being able to use my abdominals. Of course it is taking much longer for me to achieve results, I've definately had major improvements. My posture is better than it has been since I was injured. I'm apparently using back muscles that haven't been used in years. The same goes for the abs, I'm feeling it. My upper back pain has also subsided trememdously as compared to prior use of this product. I would highly recommend this product. Don't expect miracles, but it really does help. Thanks.
- Not As Easy As It Looks on TV
     By A16YC134RM7Q7B on 2008-06-30
Definitely not as easy as it looks on TV. The instructions say to always keep your head relaxed against the support. This part was totally impossible!
- I am dropping pounds
     By A35E248MQCVPM8 on 2008-01-24
I started using this three weeks ago. I started losing weight immediately by using this product. Follow the instructions and guide and lose weight. I cannot believe it. I never believed any of those things on TV. No I am a true believer. This was a gift from my wife. She wanted me to lose weight and now I am doing it, with great abs too.
