A mass shooting took place at a Jewish festival in Sydney on December the 14th, 2025. 10 people were killed. And as the news hit, these were the first people to speak up:
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese: “An act of evil antisemitism.”
Zionist Federation of Australia president Jeremy Leibler: “Members of our community have been murdered.“
Jewry co-chief executive Alex Ryvchin: “If it was a targeted attack on the Jewish community, then it was “our worst fears realised”.”
NSW Premier Chris Minns: “Our heart bleeds for the Jewish community tonight.”
Do not make empathy about groups - make it about individuals. Victimizing groups permits corrupt individuals to capitalize on these events, and most dangerously, propagates discriminatory practices against groups that are perceived as the aggressors (in this case, Muslims).
Victims are human, not groups or identities. It is precisely this kind of arbitrary group victimization that propagates the buildup and actuation of such painful events, as it is patently racist. Humans have been harmed, not Jewish people.
